FreetuxTV is a media player for watching and recording TV on a PC. It gives access to a large and growing database of free WebTV, WebRadio, and WebCam channels in more than 20 languages, along with television services provided by ISPs to their subscribers. Note: There is a current bug in FreetuxTV which prevents exiting from Fullscreen mode losing excess to the Task Bar on some Hardware.

Celluloid is a simple media player that can play virtually all video and audio formats. It supports playlists and MPRIS2 media player controls. The design of Celluloid follows the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines, but can also be adapted for other systems that don’t use client-side decorations (CSD). It is based on the mpv library and GTK.

VLC is the VideoLAN project’s media player which is used by 100’s of millions of user around the world on all platforms. It plays MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MOV, WMV, QuickTime, WebM, FLAC, MP3, Ogg/Vorbis files, DVDs, VCDs, podcasts, and multimedia streams from various network sources. VLC can also be used as a streaming server that duplicates the stream it reads and multicasts them through the network to other clients, or serves them through HTTP.

VLC has support for on-the-fly transcoding of audio and video formats, either for broadcasting purposes or for movie format transformations.

PulseAudio Volume Control is a simple volume control tool (mixer) for the PulseAudio sound server. In contrast to classic mixer tools this one allows you to control both the volume of hardware devices and of each playback stream separately. It also allows you to redirect a playback stream to another output device without
interrupting playback.

 mpv is a movie player based on MPlayer and mplayer2. It supports a wide variety of video file formats, audio and video codecs, and subtitle types.

GUVCView is a simple interface for capturing and viewing video from your Webcam from devices supported by the Linux UVC driver.

Lingot is a musical instrument tuner. It’s accurate, easy to use, and
highly configurable. Originally conceived to tune electric guitars,
it can now be used to tune any instrument. It looks like an analogic tuner, with a gauge indicating the relativeshift to a certain note indicating that note and its frequency.

QasMixer is a desktop mixer application for ALSA’s “Simple Mixer Interface” and offers features similar to alsamixer. It also features a system tray icon with basic mixer functionality. Hint: If your sound becomes muted and you can’t get it back with PulseAudio Volume Control, open QasMixer and Enable “Master” and your sound will return.

Strawberry is a music player aimed at music collectors and audiophiles.

Select Default ALSA card When you first install or run LegacyOS Live it will attempt to setup your Sound Card without any help from a User. On Laptops which also come with a HDMI output, LegacyOS will default to providing sound to your HDMI output ignoring your Soundcard. Just click and select your Soundcard and you will have sound. Just remember if you decide to use your HDMI output you will need to open Select Default ALSA card and select HDMI.

Poor Man’s Radio Player is an online Internet Radio using Terminal and highlights how versatile Terminal can be. 

SMTube is a stand-alone graphical application which allows one
to search and download Youtube videos. Although it is part of
the SMPlayer project, it can be used with any multimedia player
such as MPlayer, MPlayer2, MPV, VLC, Totem or Gnome-MPlayer to provide the  best image quality. The performance of the html5 player in a web browser is bad when using old and limited Hardware.
You’ll get much better results by using a real media player: smoother playback, no flickering, no frame drops and HD video in fullscreen, even in old computers. With SMTube you can choose the media player to play your favorite YouTube videos.

SoundConverter is a simple sound converter applicationt. It reads sound files in any format supported by GStreamer and outputs them in Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, or WAV format, or MP3 format if you have the GStreamer LAME plugin installed.

Streamtuner2 is a browser for radio station directories online. It can fetch lists from SHOUTcast, Xiph.org, Live365, Jamendo, DMOZ, basic.ch, Punkcast. And it lists stream entries by category or genre. It reuses existing audio players, and recording is delegated to streamripper. It mimics the original streamtuner 0.99.99, but is easier to extend because it’s written entirely in Python. It’s already in a stable and useable form.

Sound Recorder allows a user to record sound from a microphone and save them in the following sound formats. Vorbis, Opus, FLAC and MP3.

XMMS is a multimedia player for unix systems. XMMS stands for X MultiMedia System and can play media files such as MP3, MOD’s, WAV and others with the use of Input plugins. XMMS is mainly targeted at music playback.

Asunder is a graphical Audio CD ripper and encoder. It can be used to save tracks from Audio CDs to your computer.

WinFF provides a variety of preset conversion settings for common formats and devices. These presets are intended to hit the “sweet spot” for each individual codec. They have been written with a
tip of the balance to quality. For most presets to work, it is necessary to have the unstripped version of the libavcodec package, which is installed by default in LegacyOS.

Play it Slowly is a Application to play back audio files at a different speed or pitch. It also allows you to loop over a certain part of a file. It supports mp3 and ogg vorbis formats. Play recorded notes slower so you have more time to understand what is being said. It’s also just fun to play your favourite music artist at another speed.
