Dia is an editor for diagrams, graphs, charts etc. There is support for UML static structure diagrams (class diagrams), Entity-Relationship diagrams, network diagrams and much more. Diagrams can be exported to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

GIMP is an advanced picture editor. You can use it to edit, enhance, and retouch photos and scans, create drawings, and make your own images. It has a large collection of professional-level editing tools and filters, similar to the ones you might find in Photoshop. Numerous fine-control settings and features like layers, paths, masks, and scripting give you total control over your images. Many image file formats are supported, including JPEG, Photoshop (.psd), and Paint Shop Pro (.psp) files. It can also be used to scan and print photos.

Inkscape is an illustration editor which has everything needed to create professional-quality computer art. You can use it to make diagrams and illustrations, technical drawings, web graphics, clip art, icons and logos. A collection of hands-on tutorials show you how to combine lines, shapes and text of different types and styles to build up a picture. A selection of powerful vector graphics editing tools comes as standard. There is excellent support for paths, gradients, layers, alpha transparency and text flow control. An extensive library of filters allow you to apply realistic effects and extensions allow you to work with bitmaps, barcodes and printing marks, amongst other things. Most of the common vector formats are supported, including PDF, Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD files, and it has unrivalled support for the SVG web graphics standard.

Lazpaint can read layered files (lzp, ora, pdn, oXo, flat psd), multi-images (gif, ico, tiff), flat files (bmp, jpeg, pcx, png, tga, webp, xpm, xwd), raw images (dng, cr2, nef, arw…), vectorial (svg), 3D (obj). Has drawing tools, vector shapes, phong shading, curve adjustments, filters, render some textures, Python scripting.

MtPaint is a free, open source graphic editing program. Interface Toggle the toolbars on or off at the touch of a button. Horizontal or vertical split view mode. Pixel grid for guidance at high levels of zoom. Move the mouse pointer with exact precision using the arrow keys. Extensive shortcut keys used to improve productivity, configurable to the user’s preference. 12 Image clipboard. Up to 1000 undo steps. Zoom levels between 10% and 8000%. Pan window for quickly navigating a large image, or at a high zoom. Browse different files passed at the command line. Use a pressure sensitive graphics tablet. Limit memory used for undo images. Use gamma correction when drawing with semi-transparency. Image Manipulation Quickly transform image gamma, brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, posterize from a single dialog, and preview the results in real time. Apply various effects such as invert, greyscale, isometric transformations, edge detect, sharpen, unsharp mask, soften, Gaussian blur, emboss, bacteria. Use gamma correction on effects to improve the quality of various effects. Crop at the touch of a button. Resize the canvas. Rescale the canvas, enlarging or reducing, using several filter methods.

MyPaint is a pressure- and tilt-sensitive painting program which works well with Wacom graphics tablets and other similar devices. It comes with a large brush collection including charcoal and ink to emulate real media, but the highly configurable brush engine allows you to experiment with your own brushes and with not-quite-natural painting.

SolveSpace is a parametric 2d/3d CAD program. Applications include:

* modeling 3d parts — draw with extrudes, revolves, helix creation, and Boolean (union / difference / intersection) operations;
* modeling 2d parts — draw the part as a single section, and export DXF, PDF, SVG; use 3d assembly to verify fit;
* 3d-printed parts — export the STL or other triangle mesh expected by most 3d printers;
* preparing CAM data — export 2d vector art for a waterjet machine or laser cutter; or generate STEP or STL, for import into third-party
CAM software for machining;
* mechanism design — use the constraint solver to simulate planar or spatial linkages, with pin, ball, or slide joints;
* plane and solid geometry — replace hand-solved trigonometry and spreadsheets with a live dimensioned drawing.

Simple Scan is an easy-to-use application, designed to let users
connect their scanner and quickly have the image/document in an
appropriate format.
Simple Scan is basically a frontend for SANE – which is the same
backend as XSANE uses. This means that all existing scanners will
work and the interface is well tested.

ImageMagick is a software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a variety of formats (over 100) including DPX, EXR, GIF, JPEG, JPEG-2000, PDF, PhotoCD, PNG, Postscript, SVG, and TIFF. Use ImageMagick to translate, flip, mirror, rotate, scale, shear and transform images, adjust image colors, apply various special effects, or draw text, lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves.

Mirage is ideal for users who wish to keep their computers lean while still having a clean image viewer.

Peek makes it easy to create short screencasts of a screen area.
It was built for the specific use case of recording screen areas, e.g. for easily showing UI features of your own apps or for showing a bug in bug reports. With Peek, you simply place the Peek window over the area you want to record and press “Record”. Peek is optimized for generating animated GIFs, but you can also directly record to WebM or MP4 if you prefer. Peek is not a general purpose screencast app with extended features but rather focuses on the single task of creating small, silent screencasts of an area of the screen for creating GIF animations or silent WebM or MP4 videos.

Simple Image Reducer is an application to easily reduce and rotate images. It can be useful for processing digital photos before sending by email or uploading on the Web. Image files can be supplied to the application from the file manager using the context menu “Open with…”, or dragging files to the main window.

GTKam is a graphical application that allows you to transfer pictures and movies from a digital camera.

Screenshot is a application for taking screenshots of your desktop. You have the choice of taking a screenshot in Full Screen, Custom Area or Window. It also allows screen shots to be saved as jpg, png, bmp, xpm and tif. It can also create thumbnails for use on Webpages. Finally you can adjust the time before the screen shot is taken.
